Self-Presentation and Narratives of the Self in Antiquity

STAGE postgraduate conference

Appel à contributions
Date limite : 25 Avril 2011

Keynote: Dr Tim Whitmarsh, "Adultery and Identity in Ancient Fiction"

We are pleased to announce that abstracts can now be submitted for the STAGE conference 2011. The theme of the conference is going to be “self-representation and narratives of the self”, which is quite general and done so to allow as many PGs as possible to present their work. To bring a bit more order, we are planning to have a two-day event, the first day being focused more on “smaller” scale self-presentation (e.g. constructing persona by literary authors, poetic self-assertion in the symposium, ideas of the polis, constructing gender, clan, family, the relation of one-self to the past, self-presentation in a “physical” sense (beauty, aesthetic aspects), etc.) and the second day dealing with the more “imperialistic” aspects (e.g. “national” identities, centre-periphery questions, migration, romanitas, being Greek in the Empire, barbarians, etc.). The second day will be integrated with a CAS day on Roman Scotland, organized by Dr Jason König.

We envisage papers to take 20 minutes, followed by a prepared response and plenary discussion. Please make sure to send your anonymous abstract of no more than 300 words by Monday 25 April 2011. Abstracts should be sent as an attachment to Cette adresse email est protégée contre les robots des spammeurs, vous devez activer Javascript pour la voir. or Cette adresse email est protégée contre les robots des spammeurs, vous devez activer Javascript pour la voir. . In the body of the email, please provide your name and paper title. Notifications about decisions will be given in early May.
